Our First Camping Trip With The Cubs

We intended to leave the house by noon, but it took longer to get ourselves organized than we thought. It was 3pm by the time we left for Weaver Lake, but ah well, that's life.

Weaver Lake is near Francis Lake (where we went for Father's Day), out near Harrison Mills.

We still had plenty of day light to set up the tent (and do some renovations...I will explain later), so that's good. Justin and Ashleigh were VERY excited about the tent! Here they are watching Daddy set it up and can't wait to go in!

We brought their couch/beds from home and they worked well. Don't they look happy?

Chris and I on our new queen size air mattress that is DOUBLE the thickness of a regular one! How did it fit in the three room tent? Well, here is when I explain the renovations that Chris did. I don't know what we were thinking, fitting a queen size air matress in this tent. It had been awhile since we last saw it set up. Soooo....Chris cut out one section of the tent! He didn't harm the tent at all, just cut around the seam! If you read one of the previous post's about us going camping and BORROWING our friend's tent, you are probably thinking, "how could you cut out a wall of someone's tent???" Well, Chris was for certain that our friend's wouldn't mind one bit as they don't particularly like the tent. They bought it at a garage sale and found it to be a hassle to set up, so it's just kickin' around in the garage. Once it is set up, it's great! Good quality, nice thick canvas...

So yeah, originally, we didn't want the kid's to share a room because we didn't know how we'd get them to sleep without harming each other. But in the end, it all worked out. We put Justin to bed first. Chris was in the tent with him for awhile, while I tried to cuddle Ashleigh to sleep out by the fire, but she wasn't going to go for that! Too wound up and VERY LOUD!! (there were people camping in the next site) She wasn't screaming or anything, just talking/babbling loud like she normally does when she goes to sleep. We ended up putting her in her carseat and turning on some music for her, like she is used to at home. It worked well! She didn't even complain and didn't take long to fall asleep. Then we transported her to her bed in the tent and Chris and I enjoyed sitting around the camp fire, just relaxing in the peaceful wilderness. I think it was around 2am when we went to bed and the tiny rodents we heard and saw scurrying around the camp site earlier scurried right over the tent! I was fine with it, the tent was zipped shut.

We slept pretty good and only woke up in the night to Justin calling for us (twice, he went right back to sleep) and an owl "hooting". It was pretty cool to hear that. Ashleigh woke up when we went to bed, but after some cuddles, she slept right through until 7am. I was amazed by how well it all went because that is one thing that has stopped me from going camping with the cubs before, how ever were we going to get them to go to sleep and were we going to get any?

Chris making pop corn. It was SOOO GOOD! Definitly going to be on the list to take camping.

Justin played with his new hotwheels "baja bug" a lot and they stayed within our little site pretty good. I took them for little walks to the garbage can and back. The place wasn't too packed yet, so we really went at a good time. In between breakfast (Chris made pancakes) and lunch, we walked down to the bridge near the beach to throw rocks in the water.

Chris, Justin and Ashleigh watching other children swimming. It was seemed pretty early in the day to be going swimming! Justin really wanted to go, but we said no and instead said he could go in the pool when we got home.

That's it! We came back from our little walk and made lunch, super yummy hot dogs and roasted marshmellows. After lunch, we packed up everything and headed for home!
After baths and showers, we went swimming.
