Renos Week and Spring Break

Well, it's "Renos Week" here at the Gilbank House. This also means a break from school. Public Schools are having Spring Break as well, so why not? Sometimes we work through it, some times we don't.

My father-in-law arrived Tuesday to tackle the kitchen ceiling. It consisted of a little bit of dry wall, alittle bit of painted ceiling and the rest nspackle or stipple or what ever you want to call it.

It was like that because in the fall of 2007, we took out a wall. We covered the hole with some pillow cases and a table cloth (it looked like clouds) and that lasted about 6 months. Then, summer 2008, my father-in-law came and put dry wall in place of the "clouds". Jump to now, Spring 2011 and the stipple/spackle got scraped off, mud got spread around, sanding, more mud and today the primer is going on! Tomorrow, the new stipple/spackle will go on and would you believe the ceiling is all going to be the same? The ugly fan will be replaced with a newer light fixture and it'll be BEAUTIFUL!!

Here are some pictures:

It's hard to see, but this is how "smooth" he got the old stipple/spackle stuff.

Primer going on.

The 1/2 bathroom is also getting worked on. Yesterday, Chris got 2/3rds of the tile down. We've been down to one bathroom since last Saturday and really miss this one! (It's on the main floor, so this means we have to upstairs or there is often a "wait"). It is being tiled with the same tile that Chris did the kitchen with almost 3 years ago. We saved some tiles for this project. The 1/2 bath is just off the kitchen, so it makes sense for the flooring to all be the same. Some things just take time.

My accomplishments this week were raking leaves and dog poo in the back yard and going through the rocks out front, one by one, pulling out leaves and twigs, some garbage and one cigarette butt!

I forgot to get a before picture, but this is what it looked like after the kids helped me put some rocks back that were pulled out and we sprayed them with the hose:

This is a picture that Ashleigh wanted me to take. It was just before bed and the sky was purple.
