Gettin' 'er done - Floor Progress

Well, our company has come and gone, so back to work! We had visitors March 14/15. Another visitor from the 19-21, more visitors that were here on March 14/15 heading back to Alberta on the 23rd, 24th and the celebration of our God Son's b-day on the morning of the 25th. Oh and Chris worked Thursday and Friday, so Saturday we moved the fridge and he lay down 16 tiles.

Here they are:

Today after church, we were able to take down the baracade and walk on the newly layed tile. This afternoon, he cut some tiles and did this:

This is the space for the fridge.

Making his way over in front of the sink...

Ashleigh having a late late afternoon nap! Don't worry, I straightened her out to be more comfortable.

Cleaning up excess mud.

Voila!

Here I am, leaning over the freshly layed tiles, getting the rice ready for supper. Yes, we are determined to work around renos to prepare meals. We did eat out on Saturday, for lunch. Chris was just finishing the "16" tiles and we got in late from our outing and it was WAY past lunch time, so we went to Tim Horten's and enjoyed a nice bowl of soup. We even resisted tim bits or donuts because we had yummy "torte" (aka apple crumble) that daddy made the night before. Oh and we brought home some chilli for daddy.

Here stands the fridge.

It was too risky watching where I stepped, so Chris put this up before any damage was done.

Still able to reach the stove. Supper is cooking away and rice is in the microwave.

Over dinner, Chris and I discussed the dishwasher. No, not me! Although, I've had to wash them by hand for a day. We were pretty sure it would be able to reach the sink tonight, as it is a portable one. I got it all loaded up and helped Chris get it up on to the tile that was safe to walk on. He carefully pushed it as close to the sink as he could and said, "uh oh!". He had the hose pulled out as far as it would go and it didn't reach!!!!!!! What were we going to do?? It was only an inch or so away.

I had the awesomest idea to have him check to see if the casters went right to the edge of the dishwasher. He got down on the floor and checked. Wahoo! They didn't! He watched below, as I pushed the dishwasher closer to the sink and voila! It was just the length that we needed and the casters didn't touch the fresh tiles.

Here is an over view of what the room looks like. We're getting there!
Chris is standing in our little entrance way. All that is left is in front of the stove (to the left of where the dishwasher is sitting, right hand side of room), in front of basement door (see the door knob to the left of the room?). Then the entrance way and eventually 1/2 bathroom (to the left of where Chris is standing). We'll have to move EVERYTHING out in to the living room when Chris grouts it all. It has to be done all at once or it would be noticeable, grouting by sections. Me and the kids will be kicked out for a couple days and Chris will be forced to rely on McDonalds and Tim Horten's. We'll probably go to my parents.

The 1/2 bathroom can be done another time, when we have the new pedestal sink and toilet.

That's all for now. Maybe tomorrow we'll pull the stove out and lay down some ply-wood. We'll see how the day goes.

I love how Chris has got the new tile roped off. It's almost as if your kitchen is a crime scene! ;)

It will be a crime scene if anybody crosses the line and wrecks a tile! Caroline wouldn't let me get an electric fence kit from Princess Auto :-(

Chris.
