Ice fishing, Swan Lake Vernon, BC

I (chris) have finally met some guys in the area to go fishing with. We have been meeting at a local coffee shop in town in the mornings, and have been torturing ourselves talking about fishing. Well, that changed when we met the youth pastor of our church one morning, and he told us about the ice fishing out at Swan Lake. So, on Saturday, Feb 9, Chuck and I packed up our stuff and headed out there. I didn't catch anything, but got some good footage of Chuck hauling in a SWEET rainbow.

At first we were pretty cautious walking out there because it would sure suck to fall in. About an hour after we got set up and fishing, a line of trucks all with trailers and rally cars headed onto the lake led by a truck with a snow plow. In the summer you get water skiers, it the winter it is rally cars.

This is our first fishing spot. In the background you can see the line of trucks on the lake. Beyond them is the race track.

Eventually we figured that if they were bold enough to park all their full sized trucks in a line, I could drive my little Pathfinder out on the ice. Besides, we wanted to try some different spots and packing the gear sucked.

I also had to do some burnouts on the lake.

Sounds like fun.
Down here the ice is only thick enough to hold the ducks and geese for the most part. Except for Mom's fish pond. It froze almost over and we went sliding on it. But at only around 200 gallons it wasn't much. Then Mom tried it a few days later and fell in :)and Emily LOVES to "skate" on my 20 gallon rain catching bucket. But she fell thru one time too.

Ah well Have fun with your fishing buddies :)
